Laxman Rao: Chai wallah or Author?

You might have visited many tea stalls. But Laxman Rao’s tea stall is quite different. He sells tea as others do. But he does something extra. He sells books as well which are written by him and self-published. And this Chai wallah is Indraprastha Sahitya Bharati Award winner.
He left his village in 1975 to achieve his dream of being Shakespeare. Initially, he worked as a day labourer but later switched to tea to earn more. Late in the nights he writes stories and novels which bear the real picture of the Indian society. But many a times he has been thrown away by the publishers who think that a tea seller can not write books. So he went on publishing his own books.
He has published many “all time best-selling books” that includes Nai Duniya ki Nayi Kahani, Ramdas, Renu and so on. All total he has written 24 books so far. Out of them, 12 are printed already while 6 are gone for reprint. Already 10 thousand copies of his books have been sold. He sells his book in his tea stall and the nearest school libraries at a cost of Rs 300 a book.
He is not an ordinary tea seller, rather, is a perfect role model of the Hindi literature. But, unfortunately, this writer has been neglected by the Govt. and the police asks him the bribe for not shifting his stall. But Mr. Rao never feels bad for his poverty. He prefers being poor than to being wealthy without an interest for books.
